Bugzilla to TFS Migrator (Part 4 of 4) - Migration

This is the final part of the Bugzilla to TFS Migrator blog series covering the actual steps of migration from Bugzilla to TFS 2013.

  1. To initiate the migration, run the Bugzilla Migrator Tool. The Bugzilla URL will be picked from the information provided during the installation. Click on the button beside the TFS Collection field to launch the Connect to Team Foundation Server window.

Migrator Configuration

  1. In the Connect to Team Foundation Server window, select the TFS Server, TFS Collection and the TFS Team Project and click Connect. If you do not see any servers listed in the Select a Team Foundation Server dropdown, please refer to the link https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms181475.aspx.

  1. Click on the buttons beside the Field Mapping, Status Mapping and User Mapping to select the corresponding mapping files. Please make sure that the correct files are selected as the tool will not attempt to validate the file contents.

Migrator Configuration

  1. Prior to the migration, the defect data from the Bugzilla will need to be updated to the intermediate tables for additional processing. This is accomplished by the Analysis stage. To start the analysis of the Bugzilla defect data, click on the Initiate Analysis button.

  1. A message box pop-up will indicate the completion of this stage.

Analysis Completed

  1. Once the Analysis is completed, the actual migration can be started by clicking on the Initiate Migration button. One of the interesting features of migration tool is the ability to continue migration from the point of failure in case of any disruptions during the migration. To continue an interrupted migration, click on the Initiate Migration button without clicking on the Initiate Analysis button. If you plan to skip legacy defects from migration, you can specify the defect Id of the bugzilla defect in the field Migration Bugs from Bug ID to indicate the starting point for the migration.

  1. A message box pop-up will indicate the completion of this stage.

Migration Completed

  1. Once the migration is completed, the same can be verified by connecting to the TFS 2013 and running a query to list all the bug2 work items.
